Paper flower pricing: understanding pricing factors

Paper flower pricing can be confusing and seem wildly expensive when compared to real flowers. Understanding why paper flowers cost the way they do can help you manage your budget, especially if you’re interested in commissioning a bespoke arrangement.

Here are the factors that influence pricing the most:

1. Complexity of the Flowers

The more detailed and elaborate the design, the more time and skill it takes to make, thus impacting the final price. For example, intricate flowers with multiple layers of petals, such as roses, dahlias, and peonies, require more time and effort to create and are often priced higher. Stems with multiple flowers, such as hydrangeas, orchids, and snapdragons require meticulous craftsmanship, which increases their price.

2. Quality of Materials

The quality of materials used to create paper flowers affects their pricing. I only use high-quality materials, such as crepe paper imported from Europe and archival-quality paints and fixatives, which are expensive. These materials offer enhanced durability, vibrant colors, and realistic textures, resulting in a more refined and authentic appearance. Paper flowers made with top-notch materials not only look better but also last longer, making them a worthwhile investment.

3. Size and Quantity of Flowers

Giant paper flowers require more materials and time to create, thus contributing to a higher price tag. Similarly, bouquets or arrangements with a greater number of flowers are typically priced higher due to the additional effort involved in crafting and arranging them. Larger or more abundant paper flowers can create a more visually striking and impressive display.

Here are a variety of paper flower arrangements and bouquets at different price points. Keep in mind that these prices are meant as a guide to highlight why certain arrangements are more expensive than others. Use it as a baseline to see what you love and figure out your budget.

Paper Flower Pricing

Single Flower Arrangement

5 lilies in a vase paper flower lilies

This minimalist arrangement includes just one type flower–a lily. There are 5 lilies pictured here, although 3 are hidden in the back of the photo. An arrangement made with one type of flower, especially a relatively simple flower such as a lily, is a relatively affordable option for commissions. This arrangement starts at $130, including shipping. The price increases if you’d like to purchase the vase.

Small Arrangement

Mother's day paper flower arrangement

This Mother’s Day arrangement includes 3 flowers: a rose, and two anemones (hidden behind the rose and the greenery). There’s a variety of greenery, plus hand-made baby’s breath. This arrangement would cost $180-$220 USD. Why the variation in price? Prices vary based on estimated shipping costs, and whether the customer provides the vase or asks me to source a vase.

One-of-a-Kind Design

Paper blueberry branch made from blueberries for sal book

This one-of-a-kind blueberry branch is made with crepe paper and up-cycled book pages. Look closely, and you will see the leaves are made from the pages of the classic children’s book Blueberries for Sal. To make a truly unique piece like this branch, I spend a lot of time experimenting and testing different designs. I don’t have a template in my arsenal to speed up production, so that extra time investment influences the pricing. That being said, a commission like this is so unique, people will be awed. The price for this branch ranges from $185-$230, depending on shipping estimates and whether or not the customer provides the vase.

Bridal Bouquet

Rose and anemone bouquet

This rose and anemone bridal bouquet costs between $325-$350, depending on shipping estimates. While it’s more expensive than bridal bouquets made from real flowers, this bouquet will be a treasured keepsake. After the wedding, you can put it in a vase or divide the flowers and greenery into several bud vases to decorate your home. Paper flowers are perfect for the eco-conscious bride.

Large Arrangement
